Chapter 4: How to Analyze the "As Is" Business Processes

Part 1 focused on Business Transformation and achieving organizational readiness. It also looked at making radical changes to a company's processes, supported by a change to achieve a culture that strives to continuously innovate. In Part 2, we outline eight steps that guide a company to sustain innovation. It is the structure that supports the continuous challenging of the status quo and prevents that challenge from decaying into chaos. At the other extreme, the methodology supports the culture of innovation and ensures that complacency does not begin to set in. The steps are shown below, and each is outlined in detail in this chapter. Each step consists of tasks that are defined.

Step 1 - Establish The Team

This step is performed when first starting a new team. It covers the tasks that the team must complete to make sure it gets started in the right direction.

Following Business Transformation, the culture of innovation drives the organization to continually question and challenge processes. Measurements help identify problems and opportunities for improvement. The executive or steering committee will typically charter a team to solve such problems. The company will have designed a process framework that describes the company's core and support processes; it is within this framework that the teams work.
