Description
Domed Lens Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are a type of LED that features a domed lens design. This design alters the way light is emitted from the LED, typically focusing or diffusing the light to achieve specific lighting effects. The domed lens can enhance the brightness and directivity of the light, making it suitable for various lighting needs.
Working Principle
Domed Lens LEDs operate on the principle of electroluminescence, where a p-n junction diode emits light when activated by an electrical current. When voltage is applied, electrons recombine with holes in the semiconductor material, releasing energy in the form of light. The domed lens modifies the light emission pattern, either concentrating the light into a narrower beam or spreading it over a wider area, depending on the lens design. This makes them useful for applications requiring specific light distribution patterns.
Applications
Domed Lens LEDs are used in a variety of applications where controlled light distribution is essential. They are commonly found in advertising signs, where precise light focus is needed to enhance visibility. Advantages over other Light Emitting Diodes (LED)
One of the primary advantages of Domed Lens LEDs over other types of LEDs is their ability to control the light emission pattern more effectively. This can result in higher brightness and better focus, which is particularly beneficial in applications like traffic signals and vehicle lighting, where visibility is crucial. Limitations
