Over the last 20 years or so, many things have changed in television - more channels giving more output; digital technology providing lighter and cheaper cameras and VT; and more IT-based production, meaning that a smaller proportion of TV is made in studios. This has changed the landscape of the studio centre beyond recognition and provides a range of new ways of making TV programmes.
This chapter solely looks to provide signposts as to how this can be done - digital always seems to provide more questions than answers. Today's programme making is far more 'joined up' so a holistic approach is required, to look beyond the boundaries of technology and to consider the wider business issues. TV technology today can address many business requirements at an affordable price.
