Adobe Atmosphere is (3D) Web graphics software from Adobe that allows you to create and view 3D environments on the Internet. You create these 3D environments, also called worlds, using the Adobe Atmosphere builder.
This ReferencePoint describes how to create worlds using the features in the Atmosphere builder. It also explains how to navigate within these worlds using the Adobe Atmosphere player and browser plug-in.
The 3D Internet called 3D cyberspace has gained popularity in the past few years. In 3D cyberspace, information is packed into virtual worlds. These worlds are similar to Web pages, but provide a more realistic and interactive experience than a Web page.
In a virtual world, you can move around and interact with other users in a computer-generated 3D environment over the Internet. Typically, when entering these worlds, you pick a 3D representation of yourself called an avatar.
Figure 4-1-1 shows an avatar within a 3D World:
A two-dimensional (2D) environment allows movement on a computer screen only along the horizontal and vertical axis. A 3D virtual environment allows an additional navigation level to depict depth.
For example, a conventional Web site for an art gallery might include information about the artists and their artwork as images.
