AutoCAD 2002 ReferencePoint Suite

The User Coordinate System (UCS) enables you to work with three-dimensional (3D) models of AutoCAD. You can define a new UCS to create features that align with the default-sketching plane and other planes of 3D models, such as the side faces or the top face of the model.
This ReferencePoint describes the various techniques to change the viewpoint to view 3D models from different directions. It also explains the various types of 3D models, the important rules and conventions used to create 3D models in AutoCAD, and how to define a new UCS.
When drawing a model on a piece of paper, you can specify only the X axis and Y axis of the model. This is because the sheet of paper is a two-dimensional (2D) entity. But with the evolution of the Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology, you can create a 3D model by defining Z axis in addition to the X and Y axes.
You need to follow some important conventions to create 3D models in AutoCAD. They are:
A sketch drawn in a new AutoCAD file is drawn on the XY plane and you view the sketch from the top.
All sketches in AutoCAD are drawn on the XY plane. You can modify the orientation of the XY plane to create models that need to be created with an orientation other than the default one. But you cannot draw a sketch on any other...
