TABLE OF CONTENTS This is a reference book for those practicing or otherwise having an interest in design for manufacturability (DFM). DFM principles and guidelines are many; no one person should be expected to remember them all nor the detailed information, such as suggested dimensional tolerances, process limits, expected surface finish values, or other details, of each manufacturing process. It is expected that those involved will keep this book handy for reference when needed.
Additionally, this handbook is intended to be an educational tool to assist those who wish to develop their skills in ensuring that products and their components are easily manufactured at minimum cost. Its purpose, further, is to enable designers to take advantage of all the inherent cost and other benefits available in the manufacturing process that will be used.
Like handbooks in other fields, it is a comprehensive summary of information which, piecemeal at least, is known by or available to specialists in the field. Although some material in this handbook has not appeared in print previously, the vast majority of it is a restatement, reorganization, and compilation of data from other published sources.
