Hydraulics Field Manual, Second Edition

Corrugated steel box culverts approach the rectangular shape of a low wide box. This is made possible by the addition of special reinforcing elements to standard structural plates. The resulting combined sections develops the flexural capacity required by the extreme geometry.
Box culverts are available in spans up to 21 ft and rises to 10 ft 3 in. The foundation for box culverts can be designed as conventional concrete footers or, as partial steel spread footers, or as full steel invert. The table below lists all available sizes.
Corrugated steel box culverts are designed for low, wide waterway requirements with heights of cover between 1.4 and 5 ft and H-20 loadings. Minimum cover requirements are approximately one-tenth of the span while the maximum cover is 5 ft.
