TABLE OF CONTENTS As noted earlier, ISO 15228 and ISO 12207 are life cycle management standards and provide much better matches to CMMI than ISO 9001 or ISO 20000. However, both ISO 12207 and ISO 15288 rely on ISO 15504 for process institutionalization, meaning that CMMI GPs will be lightly mapped. Our discussion of these standards will concentrate on their contribution to process improvement rather than addressing their role as Process Reference Models (PRMs) in assessments using ISO 15504.
As indicated in chapter 4, the standard defines the purpose, outcomes, and activities and tasks for each process. Our mapping concentrates on the activities and tasks. The complete ISO 15288 CMMI map is given in Appendix E. There are no CMMI PAs that were not mapped to ISO 15288, although some were mapped more sparsely than others. For example, high maturity PAs, such as OPP and QPM, are not fully mapped to ISO 15288. Going in the other direction, from ISO 15288 to CMMI, sections 6.4.9 "Operations Process," 6.4.10 "Maintenance Process," and 6.4.11 "Disposal Process" are not mapped since those subjects are not covered by CMMI.

A number of PAs have strong maps to one or two ISO 15288 sections. These are shown in Table 5.37.
Other PAs, such as PPQA, OPD, OPF, OT, OID, and OPP, have mappings that are spread over a larger number of ISO 15288 sections.
