TABLE OF CONTENTS As indicated in chapter 4, ISO 12207 is harmonized with ISO 15288, leading to a very strong correspondence between the standards. In general, the mapping relationships follow the cross-references shown in Annex D of ISO 12207. However, from the point of view of mapping to CMMI, there is a much stronger relationship between the standards than the Annex indicates. The differences between the maps are rather small and can be easily pointed out.
The style of this standard follows ISO 9001 in that some shall statements point to whole sections whereas others point to individual statements.
By comparing the 1995 edition to the 2008 revision, one can recognize where the changes occurred and where the statements stayed the same. Therefore, some existing maps, such as maps developed by Griffith University in Australia, can be reused. However, we do caution the users that considering those existing maps must be done very carefully by fully understanding the changes introduced in the standard as well as each map and the underlying assumptions.
The reader will notice that even though ISO 12207 and CMMI cover the similar domains, they are quite different frameworks in their style and coverage. The complete ISO 12207 CMMI map is given in Appendix F.
