It s important to understand that the purpose of The Serial ATA / High Speed Serialized AT Attachment Specification (a.k.a. the Serial ATA Specification) is focused on establishing interoperability. Interoperability specifications provide just enough information to specify how one component from one company should interoperate with another component from a different company. For example, the Serial ATA Specification defines the protocol for a disk drive to communicate with a disk controller, describes how a cable should plug into a connector, and gives connector pin assignments as well as lots of similar interoperability points.
