Description
Bead thermistors are a type of thermistor characterized by their small, bead-like shape. They are semiconductor devices whose electrical resistance changes with temperature. These thermistors are typically used for precise temperature measurements due to their high sensitivity.
Working Principle
The working principle of bead thermistors is based on the relationship between temperature and electrical resistance. As the temperature changes, the resistance of the thermistor changes in a predictable manner. This change in resistance can be measured using an ohm meter, allowing for accurate temperature monitoring. Bead thermistors are particularly useful because they provide a low-cost solution for temperature sensing and are highly sensitive, making them ideal for applications requiring precise temperature control.
Applications
Bead thermistors are widely used in various temperature sensing applications. They are commonly employed in precision instrumentation, such as hand-held meters and temperature gauges. Additionally, they are used in temperature compensation circuits and current limiting applications on circuit boards.
Advantages over other Thermistors
Bead thermistors offer several advantages over other types of thermistors. Their small size allows for use in compact spaces, and they provide a high degree of stability and accuracy. Unlike some other thermistors, bead thermistors are long-lasting and can be used in a variety of environments due to their robust design.
Limitations
Despite their advantages, bead thermistors have certain limitations. They are not suitable for use in extreme temperature ranges due to their limited temperature range. Additionally, they can be fragile, which may pose challenges in certain applications where durability is a concern.
Considerations
When considering bead thermistors for an application, several factors should be taken into account. The initial cost of bead thermistors can be higher compared to other temperature sensing devices.
