Foil braid electrical power wires are designed to provide enhanced shielding capabilities. They incorporate both foil and braided shielding to offer comprehensive protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). The foil component typically consists of a thin layer of aluminum, which is often combined with polyester tape, while the braided component is made from tinned copper strands.
Working Principle
Foil braid electrical power wires work by combining the strengths of both foil and braided shielding. The foil shield offers 100% coverage, effectively blocking high-frequency noise, while the braided shield provides robust protection against low-frequency noise. This dual-layer shielding ensures optimal signal integrity by minimizing interference from external electromagnetic sources. The foil is usually placed underneath the braided shield, allowing it to fill any gaps and enhance overall electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance .
Applications
Foil braid electrical power wires are particularly useful in environments where both high and low-frequency noise are prevalent. They are commonly used in applications requiring high EMC performance, such as in single motor extension cables for encoders like the HIPERFACE DSL® .

This inflexibility can lead to the foil shield tearing or displacing, negatively impacting its screening performance .
