Data Quality: The Field Guide

Two chapters conclude this book. In the last several years, recognition of the importance of and potential for high-quality data has grown enormously. And organizations are experimenting with elements of second-generation data quality systems (see Figure 15.1 ) other than those explained here. They are examining old issues from new perspectives. Connections between data, information, knowledge, and economic value are under intense scrutiny. Chapter 35 aims not so much to predict what will happen, but to alert the reader of some issues and opportunities that are clearly on the horizon.
The final chapter rearranges the Field Tips that close each chapter of this Field Guide. These Field Tips have been field-tested, not just on data but in manufacturing as well. Many have stood the test of time.
As presented so far, each has related directly to the topic at hand, but taken together they are not organized for ready reference. Chapter 36 does so.
