Small Antenna Design

Chapter 6 Problems

Section 6.1.1

6.1

Write code to generate the wire list for an open-ended EDM. Calculate Z in and Q for the cases in Table 6.4. Comment on your results compared to those in the table.

6.2

Write code to generate the wire list for a hemispherically capped EDM. Calculate Z in and Q for the cases in Table 6.4. Note that the overall height includes the cap. Comment on your results with respect to those in the table.

Section 6.2.1

6.3

Write a model for an inverted-L on a PEC plane using 4nec2 s SY command to specify the lengths and segment numbers for the two wires. For h m = 50 mm, R = 100 mm, plot the input impedance vs. no. of segments for 50 MHz and 300 MHz. Comment.

6.4

For the last case in Table 6.7, find and plot X in against wire radius for 0.05 < r w < 2.5 mm.

Section 6.2.2

6.5

Derive eq. (6.24), the inductive reactance component for the vertical section of the monopole.

6.6

Model a top-loaded antenna on the radio box of Example 6.2. Again, the operating frequency is 915 MHz and the vertical height is 10 mm. Mount the vertical in the center of the box top and run four radials out to the corresponding points above the box-top corners. Find Z in and Q.
