Overview

One of the hottest topics in the computer industry at the moment is the explosion of the Internet. In this chapter we will see how we can make the data in our Oracle database available to the world.

The Internet

If you haven't heard of the Internet, then all this author can ask is have you been living at the North Pole? Even my elderly mom knows about the Internet and sometimes asks me to locate information for her. The Internet has exploded today in the information it has to offer, and provides a range of services which includes:

	?	File Transfer

The one area on the Internet that is exploding is the World Wide Web, which is sometimes called the Web or shortened to WWW. In the beginning a Web site was a collection of pages of information and a few graphics. For example, a company may have some pages describing who they are and what they sell. But now all that has changed, and the World Wide Web has become a new selling mechanism for many companies. With so many homes having access to the Internet, people can now buy your products anytime or anywhere.
