Final Cut Pro 3 Editing Workshop, Second Edition

In this lesson we re going to look at and work with Final Cut s filters to create some special effects. FCP offers a great variety of excellent effects, some new to FCP3. In addition, other programmers are creating effects using FCP s FXBuilder, such as the collection of filters written by Klaus Eiperle, who wrote the new filters for FCP3. A demo version of his next collection of filters CGM DV Vol. 2+ is included in the Extras folder of the CD. These filters are well worth investing in and provide many useful tools such as TimeWarp, which gradually changes the speed of clips. There is also a collection of free filters from Mattias Sandstr m called TMTS Free.
FCP also has the ability to use third-party plugin effects based on the Adobe After Effects plugin architecture. There are various packages, such as those from Boris Effects, RED, Continuum, and FX, that give the application fantastic capabilities. With OS X, only those AE plugins written specifically for or upgraded to work with the new operating system can be used in OS X. Earlier plugins, such as Final Effects, will only work in OS9. For this lesson, we ll confine ourselves to the FCP built-in effects package, including the new groups of FXScript DVE s. If you have not already done so, you should install the new FXScript DVE s that came with FCP3. Just run the installer and check the box for FXScript DVE s from CGM.
