Chapters 47 and 48 were compiled and edited by Ellen Thomas of the (Southeastern Line Constructors Apprenticeship Training) ( SELCAT) Joint Apprenticeship and Training program, with assistance from Dennis Moody, Director of the SELCAT program, Wilma Barger of SOS Technologies, Local Unions 84 and 222 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBEW, Johnny Atwood, Grant Barker, Billy Watkins and Durwood Burks.
These chapters will present the steps you should take in an emergency by offering a review and explanation of what you have learned in professionally given first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and pole top rescue classes. It is not intended as a replacement for taking the Occupational Safety and Health Act OSHA required American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the U.S. Bureau of Mines or an equivalent training that can be verified by documentary evidence.
The procedures in these chapters are based on the most current recommendations available at the time of printing. We make no guarantees as to and assume no responsibility for the correctness, or completeness of the presented information or recommendations.
To be prepared for an emergency, you should take a review course yearly and practice the skills on a mannequin in the presence of a trained instructor. Techniques are being updated, and you need to learn the current skills. The American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, the U.S. Bureau of Mines and others have courses which you may take.
The best way...
