| ||
| Your choices are... | |||
| Low Profile | This refers to a type of linear guide that has a very low horizontal profile. | ||
| Crossed Roller Rail | Crossed roller bearings consist of a caged roller assembly and two matching guide rails with machined v-groove bearing surfaces. The term crossed roller refers to the pattern in which the rollers are assembled in the cage. The rollers are set in the cage with the roller axis alternating at 90 degree angles. | ||
| Miniature Guide | Miniature refers simply to the size of the guide and is stated as such by the manufacturer. | ||
| Radial / Curved | A curved guide, also defined as curvilinear in shape, has specific uses in instrumentation. | ||
| Linear Motion Guide | Linear motion guides may also be referred to as linear guide bearings, square rail linear bearings, linear guideways, or recirculating ball bearings. This type of linear guide system is made up of two components, the guide rail and the carriage unit. The rails may come in a variety of cross sections all with machined grooves for the bearings to run in. The balls are contained on the carriage. The linear motion guide has a superior load carrying capacity and is suited for use in dirty environments; however, straightness accuracy, flatness accuracy, and smoothness are sacrificed. | ||
| M / V Style Rail | This form of linear rail or guide has two mating rails. The cross section profile of one rail forms a "V" shape and the other forms an "M" shape. This style bearing typically uses a flat needle roller cage assembly that hinges in the center with two rows of needle rollers. | ||
| Round Shaft | Round shaft linear guides are typically hardened and ground shafts used for bushing style linear bearings. Round shafts are available in different mounting configurations, depending on the type of bearing construction used. Open style bearings can be used with continuously or intermittently supported shafts, where the shaft is supported throughout or intermittently along the length of the guide. Closed style bearings can be used with end-supported shafts, where the shaft is only supported at each end. Closed bearing make full contact around the circumference of the shaft. Continuously and intermittently supported shafts typically have higher load carrying capabilities than end-supported shafts. | ||
| Spline Shaft | A spline shaft has either grooves or tongues machined along its length. The mating bearings run along either the groove or tongue, providing high rigidity. There are two main types of spline shafts, those manufactured for plain bearing spline bushings and those machined for ball splines. A spline bushing is a plain bearing with contact grooves that match those in a mating shaft. A ball spline bearing has balls that contact grooves in a matching spline shaft on at least four sides, depending on the number of splines. The balls recirculate as the bearing moves along the guide. | ||
| Track System | A track system is a linear guide assembly that combines several rail components into a closed loop system. | ||
| T Shaped | This refers to a form of rectangular guide where the bearing races are extended outward from the top of the support, forming a "T" shape. | ||
| Twin Shaft | Twin shafts are round, parallel shafts that are located in close proximity with each other. One type of twin shaft is an over - under orientation the other is side by side. | ||
| V - Grooved Guide | Grooves are machined along the length of the guide at a 90 degree or other angle, forming a "V" shape and acting as a race for the bearings or rollers to run on. | ||
| Other / Proprietary | Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary guide shapes. | ||

| Guide / Rail Material | |||
| Your choices are... | |||
| Aluminum | Aluminum is a bluish, silver-white, malleable, ductile, light, trivalent, metallic element that has good electrical and thermal conductivity, high reflectivity, and resistance to oxidation. | ||
| Polymer / Plastic | Polymer and plastic refers to any numerous organic, synthetic, or processed materials. These materials are mostly thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers of high molecular weight that can be made into objects, films, or filaments. | ||
| Stainless Steel | Stainless steel is chemical and corrosion resistant and can have relatively high pressure ratings. | ||
| Steel | Steel is a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 percent as an essential alloying constituent. It is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by its malleability and lower carbon content. | ||
| Other | Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary guide materials. | ||

| Additional Material Specifications | |||
| Your choices are... | |||
| Corrosion Resistant | Made with corrosion resistant material or coating. | ||
| Case Hardened | Case hardened steel is usually formed by diffusing carbon and/or nitrogen into the outer layer of the steel at high temperature. | ||
| Thru Hardened | Thru hardened guides or rails have been heat treated so that entire thickness has the same material hardness properties. | ||
| Unhardened | A guide or rail that has not been heat treated for hardness. | ||
