Project Planning and Scheduling Using Primavera Version 4.1: For Engineering & Construction and Maintenance & Turnaround

There are several methods for creating a new project:
Add a New Project which does not have any activities, or
Use the Project Architect wizard with or without using a Methodology, or
Import a project created from another Primavera Version 4.1 database or created with anothersoftware program such as P3, SureTrak or Microsoft Project, or
Copy an existing project and edit it.
Before discussing creating a project file, we will discuss two topics:
The file types that Primavera Version 4.1 will operate with, and
The Enterprise Project Structure (EPS) to which projects areassigned when they are created:
Primavera Version 4.1 will run on Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or Interbase databases andyour project data will be saved in one of these database formats. Primavera Version 4.1 will onlyoperate with the database format with which it has been installed and set up.
Primavera Version 4.1 will import and export to the following file types using the wizardsfound under the menu commands File, Importand File, Export:
XER. A Primavera proprietary format used to exchange Projects between Primavera Version 4.1 databases regardless of thedatabase type in which it was created.
PLF. A Primavera proprietary format used to exchange Layouts between Primavera Version 4.1 databases regardless of thedatabase type in which it was created.
Project (*.mpp). This is the default file format thatMicrosoft Project 2000, 2002 and 2003 uses to create and save files.
