Project Planning and Scheduling Using Primavera Version 4.1: For Engineering & Construction and Maintenance & Turnaround

The Project WBS function is usedto group and summarize activities under a hierarchical structure in the same way as the WBSfunction in P3 and SureTrak, and the Custom Outline Codes in Microsoft Project 2003. It is alsosimilar to Outlining in all versions of Microsoft Project, but in Primavera Version 4.1 theActivities are assigned to a hierarchical WBS Node and not demoted under a Parent Task as inMicrosoft Project. The WBS structure is used to organize and summarize your project activitiesduring planning, scheduling and statusing of Projects.
The project should be granulated (broken down) into manageable areas by using a projectbreakdown structure based on attributes of the project such as the Phases or Stages, Systems andSubsystems, Processes, Disciplines or Trades, and Areas or Locations of work. These headings arenormally the basis of the project breakdown structure, are used to create the Primavera Version 4.1WBS structure, and should present the most useful view of your project.
Defining the project breakdown structure may be a major task for project managers. Theestablishment of a Primavera Version 4.1 Methodology, more commonly called project templates, makesthis operation simpler because a standard breakdown is predefined and does not have to be createdfor each new project.
Primavera Version 4.1 also has an Activity Code functionsimilar to the Activity Code function in Primavera P3 and SureTraksoftware and the Custom Outline Codes in Microsoft Project 2003.
