Description
Variable capacitors are electronic components that allow for the adjustment of capacitance within a circuit. They are designed to store and release electrical energy, with the unique feature of being able to change their capacitance value. This adjustability is achieved through mechanical means, typically by altering the distance between the capacitor's plates or changing the overlapping area of the plates. This capability makes them essential in circuits where tuning and frequency adjustments are necessary.
Working Principle
Variable capacitors operate on the principle of capacitance, which is the ability to store an electric charge. The capacitance value is determined by the surface area of the plates, the distance between them, and the dielectric material used. In variable capacitors, the capacitance can be adjusted by mechanically changing the distance between the plates or the area of overlap. This adjustability is crucial for tuning circuits, such as those found in radios, where precise frequency selection is necessary. Applications

Advantages over other Capacitors
