FAST Creativity & Innovation: Rapidly Improving Processes, Product Development and Solving Complex Problems

When you are unable to develop your logic diagram further, copy and paste all the functions listed at the beginning of Step 7 that have not been included in the logic diagram. Post each function about three tab spaces from the left margin, and separate each entry by three or four lines; then highlight each function by making it bold. Next apply the Why-How Logic to each function posted. As you do this, post your why answers above and one tab space to the left, and post your how answers below and one tab space to the right. The functions thus grouped form a function cluster of a minimum of three functions. This will be demonstrated and made clearer when we perform this step on other sample projects. Each cluster is checked to make sure the logic holds by asking the following question of all how functions:
Does this how function help its why function?
If the answer is yes, it indicates that the logic is correct in the how direction. If the answer is no, it indicates that the logic is not correct in the how direction. However, a "no" answer indicates that the how function is a function which supports the why function. When this occurs, a caret (^) symbol before the how function in the cluster is used to indicate that it supports the why function above it. Every supporting function has the...
