Managing Change, Fourth Edition

So far in this workbook we have looked at what's involved in gradual change that takes place over a period of time. More specifically, we have looked at what's involved in making small changes to improve the quality of processes, products and services on a continuous basis.
In this session we are going to switch focus and concentrate on a second form of change: major and dramatic change. Such change has to be planned very carefully if it is to be successful. As a first line manager you have an important part to play in this process, ensuring that objectives are set, actions to achieve these objectives are identified and assigned to the most appropriate members of staff, and that results are monitored against the objectives.
We will be examining this planning process in some detail. But first we are going to consider the nature of major change and the reasons for it.
