The Project Importing Assets

Now that you know your way around inside of Encore and understand the importance of planning the project, it s time to start filling up some of those blank spaces that you saw when you set up Encore s Preferences. (You did set up your Preferences, didn t you?) Importing assets is a great place to start.

In this chapter you will encounter the terms timeline, slideshow and menu. Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 offers special import options that allow you to create these project elements at the same time that you import assets. These elements will be discussed in detail in other chapters, so don t worry if you don t see right away how they all fit together in the project.

Rules for Imported Assets

Since Encore is an authoring application that is designed to assemble content instead of to create content, we need to go over the rules about what kind of assets Encore will accept. The rules are broken down here by the type of asset to be imported: video, audio and graphic.

Give this section a quick read, and certainly don t try to memorize all the rules that follow. Instead, use this section as a reference to guide you as you consider how to prepare your assets outside of Encore. You should also check this section again should Encore ever complain about an asset that you are trying to import.
