A genus of parasitic tapeworm. Taenia saginata larvae are found in cattle and T. solium in pigs, but both are also parasites in man causing taeniasis (beef tapeworm) or cysticercosis (pork tapeworm). Prevention of the disease is by sanitary disposal of wastewater and thorough cooking of meat, particularly pork.
