As an internal consultant, you will need to fill many roles as you practice consulting skills within your organization. The skills you will apply are similar in some ways to that of the external consultant. Yet your role is far broader and you bring to the effort skills that an external consultant will never be asked nor be able to apply. The reason for this is that you are not simply acting as an internal consultant for the organization. In many ways, you are also part of the organization for which you are consulting.
What does the suffix ion mean to you? Webster's dictionary defines it in two ways: "an action or process" or "a result of an action or process." In either case, the internal consultant's role in the process of change is to initiate, support, or follow-up with the organization as a result of actions or processes in which they are involved. For the internal consultant, ion is a very important suffix because the action words associated with it describe what is expected in this role.
