Compound Microscopes
Description
A compound microscope is an optical instrument that uses multiple lenses to magnify small objects, allowing the human eye to discern details that would otherwise be indiscernible. It consists of an objective lens and an eyepiece, which work together to project a magnified image of the object being observed.
Working Principle
The compound microscope operates using a relay lens system. The objective lens, located closest to the object, captures and relays a real image to the eyepiece. The eyepiece then magnifies this real image to produce a virtual image that can be observed by the eye or captured by a sensor. This system allows for significant magnification, with eyepieces typically providing an additional 10X magnification, although this can vary from 1X to 30X .
Applications
Compound microscopes are used in various optical microscopy applications, such as fluorescence microscopy and laser ablation. These applications utilize unique setups to integrate with the components of a microscope, allowing for detailed analysis and observation of microscopic structures .
Advantages over other Microscopes
