AutoCAD 2008 Essentials

Chapter 2: Drafting Using AutoCAD 2008

INTRODUCTION

  • There are two important things in drafting:

    • Precision

    • Speed

  • You always want to finish your drawing as fast as possible, yet you don't want to undermine your drawing's precision.

  • We always put precision before speed, as it is easier to teach you how to speed up your creation process if you are slow. It is nearly impossible to teach somebody the good techniques of accuracy.

  • In this chapter we will tackle many commands, but the most important issue here is drafting with precision.

LINE COMMAND

  • To draw segments of straight lines.

  • There are lots of methods to help us draw precise shapes using the Line command, which will be discussed later. As for now we will use the only method we know typing the coordinates in the Command window.

  • To issue the Line command do one of the following:

    • From the dashboard and using the 2D Draw panel, click the Line button.

    • From menus, select Draw/Line.

    • Type line (or l) at the Command window.

  • The following prompts will appear:

    Specify first point: <b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">(type in the coordinates of</i></b><b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">the first point)</i></b>Specify next point or [Undo]: <b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">(type in the coor-</i></b><b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">dinates of the second point)</i></b>Specify next point or [Undo]: <b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">(type in the coor-</i></b><b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">dinates of the third point)</i></b>Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: <b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">(type in the</i></b><b class="bold"><i class="emphasis">coordinates of the fourth point)</i></b>
  • NOTE At any moment you can use the Undo option to undo the last...
