Appendix 8.2 Key Elements Of The Project Plan

The typical project plan for CWMS selection should be a word document that provides a clear guide for the selection process. The following topic areas are necessary.

• Introduction provides background for the project, summarizes the business case, goals and objectives for the project and discusses overall scope and schedule.

• Selection team charter this section provides a brief overview of the vision, mandate, roles, responsibilities, authorities, accountabilities and expected results from the team.

• Project team a project team chart is usually desirable in this area, together with a discussion on team members roles, time commitments and brief biographies.

• Selection methodology this section discusses the methodology to be used for selecting the vendor and product that best meet the company s business needs.

• Work breakdown structures (WBS) this section provides details on each of the major project activities (description, resourcing, time, scope, money, impact on the operations, dependencies with other activities), milestones and deliverables (both tangible and intangible). The WBS will be used to develop the project schedule.

• Quality control and quality assurance this section should define the process for assuring quality in the selection process and provide clear guidelines on the quality control activities.

• Communication provides an overview of the communication process for the selection phase and refers to the detailed communication plan (generally developed for the overall CWMS project).
