Properties: Flammable, silvery to grayish white powder. Odorless. Sinks in water. Reacts violently with water generating flammable hydrogen.
Uses: As a reducing agent in preparing other metals such as thorium, uranium, zirconium; a deoxidizer and desulfurizer for ferrous and nonferrous alloys; an agent for preparing aluminum, beryllium, copper, lead, and magnesium alloys.
