OSHA Table Z-1 Air Contaminant
NIOSH Criteria Document: NIOSH 77-151 ALKANES
Vapor is an eye and respiratory tract irritant. Aspiration into lungs can produce chemical pneumonia and/or lung edema; the effects may be delayed. Very high vapor concentrations may affect central nervous system, resulting in irritation, headache, fatigue, lack of concentration, narcosis. Chronic contact with the liquid will defat the skin, causing dryness, possible irritation, and redness. Long term exposure may cause central nervous system damage with numbness and weakness in arms and legs; dry. cracked skin; liver and kidney disease; and chronic respiratory problems.
Exposure Limits:
ACGIH TLV: 600 ppm (all isomers, 109-66-0; 109-66-0; 463-82-1)
NIOSH REL: 120 ppm/350 mg/m 3
