Properties: Very flammable watery liquid. Clear, colorless to yellowish or light brown-amber. Characteristic petroleum-like odor. Floats on and insoluble in water. Vapors are heavier than air; will collect in low areas. Note: A petroleum distillate with a typical boiling point range of 347 617 F (175 325 C) and atypical composition of 25% normal paraffins, 11% branched paraffins, 30% monocycloparaffins, 12% dicycloparaffins, 1% tricycloparaffins, 16% mononuclear aromatics and 5% dinuclear aromatics. Deororized kerosene has a boiling range of 408.2 525.2 F (209 274 C) and a typical composition of 55.2% paraffins, 40.9% naphthenes, and 3.9% aromatics.
Uses: As a solvent, degreaser, and cleaner; as lighting, illuminating, and heating fuels, motor and engine fuels, as a vehicles for increasing the effectiveness of fungicides; in paint thinners; as a mold-release agent.
