Mastering AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008

Now it's time to pull it all together. Every chapter to this point has been focused on individual tasks or design elements. In this chapter, we'll look at using Vault to assemble the pieces into a complete set of plans. Although we won't create every single note on every sheet, we will attempt to look at the various plans and how they come together. We will discuss one possible workflow that has succeeded, and then look at the mechanics of populating the vault with design data for sharing, how changes and updates are handled, and finally, version tracking and restoration. In this chapter, you'll learn to:
Describe the differences between using Vault and data shortcuts
Insert Civil 3D data into a vault
Create data references
Restore a previous version of a design file

We looked at some of the infrastructure and setup concerns in Chapter 18, but let's focus on the two big questions that are left: Why use Vault instead of data shortcuts? And how does my team come together with Vault?
