Steel Timing Pulleys (metric)
Timing pulleys are specific pulleys that carry pockets or teeth around the external diameter of their body. The pockets or teeth in these pulleys perform specialized functions. Timing teeth secure the shaft rotation and avoid misalignment. On the other hand, timing pockets capture the drive lugs on the internal circumference of the belt. The belt moves through frictional forces between the flat belt and the surfaces of the pulley.
These pulleys can be composed of aluminum, steel, or plastic. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages; therefore, one should select the material of the pulley according to the industry or project type. Aluminum pulleys are ideal for drive systems that require high horsepower because aluminum has excellent tensile strength, can resist high temperature, and is durable. Unlike aluminum, steel is widely available, so steel pulleys are used in many industries, including the ones that have rigid requirements. Steel timing pulleys can withstand harsh environments, have higher load capacity, and remain stable even in extreme hot and cold conditions. Some industries also use plastic timing pulleys because they are lightweight and require less maintenance, unlike aluminum and steel pulleys. However, one disadvantage of plastic timing pulleys is the lack of durability, unlike aluminum and steel timing pulleys.

Applications
Steel timing pulleys are the principal component of many mechanical devices because they can shift rotational motion from one shaft to another with minimum mechanical losses. In automobile engines and sewing machines, these pulleys are utilized to drive the camshafts to generate a high level of power. Automobiles require excellent power transmissions for their movement. The toothed belts in these pulleys help to produce high-power transmissions and assist in enhancing the power of the engine and reducing its noise. Besides automobile engines and sewing machines, these pulleys are also used in 3D printers, treadmills, industrial automation products, and conveyor systems.
