Vegas Editing Workshop, Second Edition

Vegas was one of the early multitrack editors available for the PC before the advent of Vegas Video 2.0. Having set the standard for audio on the PC with Sound Forge several years previously, a multitrack tool was a logical step, and like Forge, it became a standard for the Windows environment.
Vegas can be used for a basic voice-over-only setup or as the heart of a full-blown multitrack studio setup for recording live bands, film scoring, television production work, or other professional audio requisite.
For those doing audio for video, it s often thought that video is more difficult to edit than audio. Perhaps so, but audio is the greater importance in the two media forms. Those who would argue the point might want to take any movie, turn the sound off, and see how enjoyable the film is. Even in the days of silent film, a musical score accompanied the film, and most theaters had a piano or organ player who performed the score along with the silent film. In current times, audio and video artists and engineers are crossing formerly strongly drawn lines in the authoring of various forms of media.
Vegas manages media at three levels:
Event
Track
Project
Events contain graphic, video, text, or audio information. Events can be individually edited, and have effects added, processed, and controlled. Events live on tracks.
Tracks contain multiple events. Tracks can control, process, and add effects to all events on the individual track.
