Basic Setup

To record audio from a microphone plugged into the computer, a microphone and sound card are needed. Plug the microphone into the soundcard s microphone input and open Vegas. The timeline/workspace will open with no audio or video control panes. An audio control track will need to be inserted, which is done by pressing CTRL+Q

or by selecting INSERT AUDIO TRACK. Click the Record button on the control pane of the new track. Vegas displays a dialog box asking for the location to which audio files are to be recorded.

Tip

Recording to a second hard drive is highly recommended for purposes of keeping audio files off the system drive. This process allows input/output (I/O) to run more efficiently and helps ensure flawless recording.

Audio is now ready to be recorded. Click the Record button on the transport control to begin recording. Click the Stop button on the transport control to stop recording. You won t believe how many people will not think of that! This is all there is to recording basic audio in Vegas. From here, much, much more can be done.

When the Record button is armed (clicked), an icon that looks like two speakers is located in the Track Control pane next to the Record button. If a multichannel card is installed on the system, a number will appear instead of the dual speaker icon.
