Leadership Training

Learning Activity 10 4: Self-Assessment

Goal

The goal of this activity is to begin to assess the participants individual leadership strengths and weaknesses.

Materials

  • Assessment Assessment 11 1: Leadership Self-Assessment

  • flipchart and marking pen

Time

  • Clock 20 minutes

Instructions

Explain the groupings of Self-Alignment, Working with Others and Integration, and note the competencies contained in each. Point out that growing as leaders requires that we explore our inner Self and learn to work well with others, and most importantly learn to integrate the right tools and techniques, with the right people, for the right task, at the right time. This is the magic of leadership.

Distribute Assessment 11 1: Leadership Self-Assessment (Chapter 11, page 167). Ask participants to look at each of the subcompetencies, evaluate their own competency by writing H (high), M (medium), or L (low), then summarize all the subcompetencies and come up with an overall rating of H, M, or L for each competency. Do the first one as an example so they understand the process. Play quiet instrumental music while participants work on their own.
