B-C

Backward Indicator Bit (BIB)
A bit in an SS7 signaling message, by its status change at the remote end, requests retransmission because of message received out of sequence.
Backward Sequence Number (BSN)
A field in an SS7 signal unit sent that contains the forward sequence number of a correctly received signal unit being acknowledged.
Bandwidth
A term that is applicable to signals that occupy a portion of a frequency spectrum, particularly a radio system. Analysis or measurement of the signals or signal waveforms of such a system will show that most (or substantially all) of the power contained in that signal can be found in a designated portion of the frequency spectrum. The difference between the highest and lowest frequency describing that portion of the spectrum is the bandwidth of the signal. Bandwidth is measured in units of hertz or cycles per second.
Bandwidth On Demand (BoD)
A system that allows different data transmission rates based on requests from the customer, their application (e.g. voice or video), and the data transmission capability of the system.
Baud
Name for the unit of data symbols per second. This name, abbreviated Bd, is taken from the name of the 19th century French teletypewriter machine innovator Emiel Baudot. For a method of modulation or encoding in which there is a choice of only two symbol values per symbol interval, or one bit per symbol (such as two-level pulse voltages) the baud rate is equal to the bit rate (bits per second). For a...
