Q.931
A telecom call processing signaling protocol that is used in telephone communication systems. The Q.931 protocol defines the messages and formats are control messages that are created by the end communication device. Some of the common information contained in Q.931 messages include call setup and tear down messages, called and calling party telephone numbers, and other access control signaling messages.
Quantization
The process of representing a value with a less precise value. In analog-to-digital conversion, a continuous analog value is represented by one of a finite number of quantized values. In lossy signal compression (such as an A-law encoding) one digital value is represented by another one which is usually not precisely the same. Except in lucky cases where the quantized value is exactly the same as the original, quantization introduces error (or noise).
Queuing
A process of delaying or sequencing messages. Queuing involves receiving requests for service, prioritizing these requests, storing them in appropriate order and transferring the messages when the facilities (channels) are available to send them.
Queuing systems may change the order of messages or services to be provided based on priority access. For example, communication requests from a public safety official may be given priority over a communication request from a consumer.
