Class IV Lasers

Description

Class IV lasers are the highest and most powerful class of lasers, capable of exceeding the Class 3B Accessible Emission Limit (AEL). These lasers are known for their ability to burn skin and cause severe eye damage through direct, diffuse, or indirect beam exposure. They are also capable of igniting combustible materials, posing a fire risk. Due to their high power, Class IV lasers are equipped with safety features such as a key switch and a safety interlock to prevent accidental exposure .

Working Principle

Class IV lasers operate by emitting a highly concentrated beam of light that can be focused to a small point, allowing for precise energy delivery. This high energy concentration is what makes them useful for a variety of applications, as it allows for cutting, welding, and other processes that require significant power.
