The difference in phase between a current and the voltage that produced it, expressed in electrical degrees.
A sine wave current that lags behind the alternating electromotive force that produced it. That is, the positive peak of current occurs later in time than the positive peak of voltage. A circuit that produces a lagging current is one containing inductance alone, or whose effective impedance is inductive.
A load whose combined inductive reactance exceeds its capacitive reactance. When an alternating voltage is applied, the current lags behind the voltage.

The Greek symbol for L that is used to represent wavelength, for instance in optical and electrical signals. Wavelength is the distance one cycle of a wave travels. Wavelength can be calculated by dividing the speed of the wave by its frequency. For example, in free space (in a vacuum) the wavelength of an electromagnetic wave is equal to: (300,000,000 meters/sec)/ frequency (Hz). The wavelength of a radio or lightwave traveling in vacuum at 300 MHz is 1 meter.
