M: M Format MWI

M Format

A component video format for use in videotape recorders. The signal set consists of separate Y, I, and Q signals. The terminology M refers to the way in which the tape is routed through the recording mechanism. M-format is a registered trademark of Panasonic.

M Regions

The areas of the surface of the sun that appear to be responsible for many of the electromagnetic disturbances experienced on earth.

M, m

(1- Metric prefix) Capital or upper case M represents Mega or one million (1,000,000). Small or lower case m represents milli or 1/1000 or 0.001. (2- Roman Numeral) The Roman Numeral M represents one thousand or 1000. (3- metric unit) Lower case m represents the length unit meter.

M12 Multiplexer

A multiplexer that combines 4 DS-1 tributary bit streams into a DS-2 bit stream. Another name for a DS-2 or T-2 multiplexer. Less used today because of the economic advantage of an M13 mutiplexer.

M13 Multiplexer

A multiplexer that combines 28 DS-1 tributary bit streams into a DS-3 bit stream.

M23 Multiplexer

A multiplexer that combines 7 DS-2 tributary bit streams into a DS-3 bit stream. Another name for a DS-3 or T-3 multiplexer. Less used today because of the economic advantage of an M13 mutiplexer.
