Chain Specifications
ANSI Pitch:      Number designations for roller chain pitch are governed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).  English roller chain and sprockets are categorized according to ANSI B 29.1M. The number can be used to identify pitch in the following way: the first digits identify the pitch in 1/8" increments, and the last digit is 0 for standard proportions, 1 for lightweight chain, and 5 for rollerless bushed chain. A #41 sprocket is therefore for 1/2"-pitch lightweight chain, a #120 sprocket is for 1-1/2" pitch chain, etc.

ISO BS/DIN Pitch      British Standard / DIN / International Standards Organization (ISO) designations are governed by European standards committees. Metric roller chain and sprockets are categorized according to ISO Standard 606. The number correlates to pitch in 1/16" increments, expressed in millimeter units. AN ISO 12 sprocket therefore mates with a chain with 3/4", or 19.05mm, pitch.

   Features
   Your choices are...
Attachment Chain       Standard conveyor roller chain with attachments for conveyor applications are basically the same as power transmission roller chain, with the addition of attachments such as extended pins or integral flanges (often with holes). Standard conveyor roller chain with attachments is covered by the ASME B29.1 standard.
Double Pitch       Double pitch roller chain is similar to standard single-strand roller chain, except the pitch is double that of the standard chain.  Double pitch roller chain is covered by the ASME B29.3 standard.
Flexible       Chain construction allows some limited transverse or side-to-side curvature.
O-ring Chain       Chain is manufactured with O-rings on the pins.
Self-lubricating       Material contains integral lubrication or is designed not to need lubrication.
Other       Other, unlisted, or specialty feature.

   Your choices are...
Extended Pins       Pins extend outward from face of link.
Standard Bent       Link attachment bends 90° outward from link.
Standard Straight       Link attachment is parallel with chain link.

Chain Material
Chain Material      Roller chain comes in a wide variety of metal and plastic materials. Many factors such as cost, environmental conditions, noise and heat generation and design horsepower transmission influence the best material choice. Consult a chain manufacturer on a specific application for material optimization.
   Your choices are...
Acetal (Celcon®, Delrin®, etc.)       Acetal polymers are semi-crystalline. They offer excellent inherent lubricity, fatigue resistance, and chemical resistance. Acetal suffers from outgassing problems at elevated temperatures, and is brittle at low temperatures. Glass-filled and added lubrication grades are available, flame retardant grades are not. Brand names include Celcon (Hoechst Celanese), Delrin (Dupont), Thermocomp (LNP), Ultraform (BASF), and Acetron (DSM).
Fluoroelastomer / Perfluoroelastomer (Viton®, Kalrez®, etc.)       Fluoropolymer elastomers are normally black and have high heat, oil, and chemical resistance. They have indifferent low temperature performance. With the exception of Kalrez® (Dupont Dow Elastomers), perfluorinated elastomer, they are the most highly temperature-resistant of all commercially available elastomers. Trade names include Viton® (Dupont Dow Elastomers), Fluorel® and Aflas™ (Asahi Glass Co., Ltd.), and Technoflon® (Montedison).
Polymide (Nylon, Nylatron®, etc.)       Nylon, comprising several grades of polyamides, is a general purpose material in wide use. Nylon is tough, corrosion resistant, and has good strength ratings for plastic. This material includes high performance plastics, such as Nylatron®, nylon plastic filled with molybdenum disulfide lubricant powder. Nylatron® is a registered trademark of Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products, Inc.
Polypropylene       Polypropylene is a thermoplastic material exhibiting excellent cold flow, bi-axial strength, and yield elongation properties. It is similar to PVC but can be used in exposed applications because of its resistance to UV, weathering, and ozone.
Stainless Steel       Stainless steel refers to a broad family of steels that are chemical and corrosion resistant. Stainless steel is typically not hardened or hardenable to the same extent as standard carbon steels.
Steel / Hardened Steel       Steel is a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 percent as an essential alloying constituent. It is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by its malleability and lower carbon content.
Other Metal Material       Unlisted or specialized metal chain material.
Other Plastic Material       Unlisted or specialized plastic chain material.
