Planning & Scheduling Using Primavera Version 5.0 for Engineering & Construction: Planning and Progressing a Single Project Schedule With and Without Resources In An Established Project Environment

There are several methods for creating a new project:
Add a New Project which does not have any activities, or
Use the Project Architect wizard, or
Import a project created from another Primavera Version 5.0 database or created with another software program such as P3, SureTrak or Microsoft Project, or
Copy an existing project and edit it.
Before discussing creating a project file, we will discuss two topics:
The file types that Primavera Version 5.0 will operate with, and
The Enterprise Project Structure (EPS) to which projects are assigned when they are created:
Primavera Version 5.0 will run on Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server databases for multi user installations or Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) for stand alone. Primavera Version 4.1 used Interbase for stand-alone installations, where as Primavera Version 5.0 will only operate with the database format with which it has been installed and set up with.
Primavera Version 5.0 will import and export to the following file types using the wizards found under the menu commands File, Import and File, Export :
XER. A Primavera proprietary format used to exchange Projects between Primavera Version 5.0 databases regardless of the database type in which it was created.
PLF. A Primavera proprietary format used to exchange Layouts between Primavera Version 5.0 databases regardless of the database type in which it was created.
