Planning & Scheduling Using Primavera Version 5.0 for Engineering & Construction: Planning and Progressing a Single Project Schedule With and Without Resources In An Established Project Environment

The Enterprise Project Structure - EPS and Work Breakdown Structure - WBS functions were discussed earlier as a method of organizing projects and activities under hierarchical structures. There are alternative features available in Primavera Version 5.0 for grouping, sorting and filtering activities, resources and project information:
Activity Codes
Project Codes
Resource Codes
Cost Accounts
OBS
EPS Level Activity Codes
These functions are addressed in this book but are not examined in detail.
A Project Breakdown Structure represents a hierarchical breakdown of a project into logical functional elements. Some organizations have highly organized and disciplined structures with "rules" for creating and coding the elements of the structure. Some clients also impose a WBS code on a contractor for reporting and/or claiming payments. The following are examples of such structures:
Work Breakdown Structure, breaking down the project into the elements of work required to complete a project.
Code of Accounts or also know as Cost Breakdown Structure. Often this includes costs that are not included in a schedule such as insurances and overheads. The WBS would in this situation represent part of the COA.
Organization Breakdown Structure, showing the hierarchical management structure of a project. Primavera Version 5.0 has a predefined field for this breakdown structure.
Contract Breakdown Structure, showing the breakdown of contracts into elements.
System Breakdown Structure, a System Engineering method of breaking down a complex system into elements.
