Chapter 16: Alternative Methods of Organizing Activities

Overview

Activity Codes were discussed earlier as a method of organizing activities under project breakdown structures. There are other tools available in SureTrak for organizing activities in a schedule:

  • Activity ID Codes

  • Sub Projects

  • WBS Codes

  • Outlining.

16.1 Activity ID Codes

The Activity ID Code is assigned as part of the Activity ID. These codes are defined in a similar way to the previously covered Activity Codes but are assigned by including the Activity ID Code in the Activity ID.

Activities assigned with Activity ID Codes are organized in Layouts using the same method as activities assigned with Activity Codes. You have the option of choosing Activity Codes and/or Activity IDs when creating a Layout.

In the example below Organized by the Activity IDs Phase, Facility Area and Equipment Group and an Activity ID Code has been assigned to the:

  • Phase the first character of the Activity ID,

  • Facility Area second, third and fourth character in the Activity ID, and

  • Equipment Group fifth, sixth and seventh character in the Activity ID.

16.1.1 Defining Activity IDs

Select Define, Activity Codes and the Activity ID tab in the Activity Codes form.

  • Use or click in the first blank line to create and name a new Activity ID Code.

  • Length will indicate the maximum number of characters the Activity ID the code may use.

  • Value and Order are entered in the same way as Activity Codes.
