Chapter 3: Creating Projects and Setting Up the Software

Overview

Ensure you have checked the Primavera Systems website for the latest Service Pack as some functions in the original release of SureTrak Version 3.0 did not work correctly, including printing and Interactive filter. You may check which version of SureTrak you have by selecting Help, About SureTrak , if there are no letters after SureTrak3.0 you do not have the service pack loaded. At the time of writing this book 3.0c was the latest update. Service Pack 3.0b is essential as this resolved printing, reports and filter problems.

There are three methods of creating a new project in SureTrak:

  • Use a template that contains default data and formats

  • Copy an old project and modify it

  • Use the SureTrak Project KickStart Wizard

3.1 File Types

SureTrak will work with four file types:

  • SureTrak is the standard format for SureTrak files in a single project environment (without sub-projects) and allows Long File Names.

  • Project Groups is used when there are a number of projects sharing the same resources or projects that need to be managed or reported as a group, and this file type must have exactly four characters in the file name.

  • Concentric (P3) is used when you wish to share a project or Project Group with P3 users and this file type must have exactly four characters in the file name.
