Planning Using Primavera: Suretrak Project Manager Version 3.0

Constraints are used to impose logic on activities that may not be realistically scheduled with logic links. We will deal in detail with four constraints:
Start constraint Early
Finish constraint Late
Expected Finish
Float constraint As late as possible.
These are the minimum number of constraints that required to effectively schedule your project.
Start constraint Early (also known as start no earlier than" constraint) is used when the start date of an activity is known or known approximately. SureTrak will not allow the activity s early start prior to this date.
Finish Constraint Late (also known as finish no later" constraint) is used when the latest finish date is stipulated. SureTrak will not allow the activity s late finish after this date.
Expected Finish is used to calculate the remaining duration. SureTrak will calculate the remaining duration as the number of working days left between the start date (data date if in progress) and the nominated expected finish.
Float constraint As late as possible (also known as zero free float") is used to make the activity early finish immediately prior to its successors. A classical example is the just in time" delivery of materials before installation.
The other constraints are:
Start constraint Late Start no later than
Finish constraint Early Finish no earlier than
Start on Start no earlier than and Start no later than
