30.1 NOMENCLATURE

API GRAVITY

An alternative way of expressing the specific gravity of a product. An arbitrary gravity of 10.0 is assigned to fresh water. Numbers above 10.0 indicate products lighter than fresh water: those below, heavier. API Gravity = (141.5/Specific Gravity) ? 130.5.

BBLS

Barrels, a unit of oil measurement.

B S & W

Basic Sediment and Water is residue remaining at the bottom of tanks after product removed.

CALM

Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring is one type of Single Point Mooring system, which could be used as an offshore terminal. It is characterized by a floating buoy moored to the seabed by 6 to 8 anchor legs laid out in large scope catenaries.

DICAS

Differentiated Compliant Anchoring System is a spread mooring system for FPSOs with different mooring stiffness at the bow and stern. Allows partial weathervaning of vessel (yaw angles of 25 to 80 ).

FLEX RISERS

Non-bonded reinforced flexible flowlines used to connect the subsea development to the FPSO.

FPSO

A Floating, Production, Storage, and Off-loading vessel, which often is ship shaped and can be either a converted tanker or new construction specifically for this service.

FSO

A Floating Storage and Offloading Unit can be ship shape or barge configuration, used to store crude in conjunction with other fixed offshore production facilities. The unit is moored at a specific location for extended periods of time with stored crude being...
