Description

Sealed pressure transmitters are devices designed to measure pressure in various environments. They are equipped with a sealed diaphragm that isolates the sensing element from the process fluid, ensuring accurate pressure readings without direct contact with the fluid.

Working Principle

Sealed pressure transmitters operate by using a diaphragm that deflects when pressure is applied. This deflection exerts a force on an incompressible fill fluid, which is then transmitted hydraulically to a sensing diaphragm within the transmitter body. The deflection of this sensing diaphragm is the basis for the pressure measurement. These transmitters are useful because they provide accurate pressure readings while protecting the sensing element from harsh or corrosive process fluids.

Applications

Sealed pressure transmitters are commonly used in environments where the fluid temperature is high, the fluid is corrosive, or the fluid is viscous and may solidify in the sensor connection piping. They are also used in hygienic and sanitary applications, such as in the agri-food, pharmaceutical, and other industries where health regulations are stringent.

Advantages over other Pressure Transmitters

Sealed pressure transmitters offer several advantages over other types of pressure transmitters. They are particularly beneficial in applications involving high-temperature fluids, corrosive substances, or fluids that may freeze or solidify. Their design helps prevent sensor damage and ensures reliable performance in challenging conditions.

Limitations

One limitation of sealed pressure transmitters is that they may not be suitable for applications requiring direct contact with the process fluid for measurement. Additionally, the presence of a fill fluid can introduce potential errors if the fluid properties change with temperature or pressure.

Considerations

When selecting sealed pressure transmitters, it is important to consider factors such as initial costs, operating expenses, and maintenance requirements. These transmitters may have higher initial costs due to their specialized design, but they can offer long-term savings by reducing the need for frequent replacements or repairs. Durability and accuracy are key considerations, as well as the potential costs associated with replacement and maintenance over time.
